Sensory Garden, Kwun Tong Promenade
The Kwun Tong Promenade has fast become a popular waterfront destination for tourists, local families and neighbourhood lunchtime office workers.
The spacious 4.3 hectare recreation area, built under a major highway overpass, offers impressive views of Hong Kong’s famous Victoria Harbour. Formerly the waterfront site of a Public Cargo Area and many recycling companies, the Hong Kong Government has revitalised the former industrial site to create a much-needed 1 km long public space.
Hypsos was selected to provide outdoor exhibits to create a “Sensory Garden”, an educational and fun installation primarily targeted at families and small groups. The area is organised into 4 sensory zones: Smell, Touch, Sound and Sight and offers various hands-on activities, including a Giant Kaleidoscope, Giant Sound Tubes and relief models of local flora, some including aromas.
Design development
Hypsos was responsible for the design, fabrication and installation of all the exhibits, including graphics. We also fabricated and installed tactile maps and installed a tactile path to provide access and an exhibit experience for visually impaired visitors.
