Lost Shtetl Museum
For the Lost Shtetl Museum (LSM) in Šeduva, Lithuania, Hypsos realized the exhibition based on the design by RAA (Ralph Appelbaum Associates, New York). This newly built museum tells the story of the Jewish community in Šeduva between 1918 and 1940 and reflects on its tragic end, within the wider context of Lithuanian and European Jewish history.
As the main contractor, Hypsos was responsible for the full implementation of the exhibition across a total area of 878 m², with a project timeline from September 2023 to September 2025.
Our scope included:
-
Scenography and interior fit-out
-
Graphic design: from monumental wall graphics and labels to book reproductions
-
Climate-controlled display cases, mounts, and object handling
-
Practical interactive elements and AV integration
-
Exhibition lighting integrated into the interior design
-
Multimedia: projections, touchscreens, and a small cinema room
-
Show control
Hypsos not only acted as the executing party, but also took on an advisory and coordinating role, with weekly alignment meetings with the client and close collaboration with designers, curators, and more than twenty other parties working on the building simultaneously.
Throughout the project, we worked closely with the client on value engineering—optimizing materials, fabrication methods, and detailing without compromising the design intent, ensuring the project stayed within budget and schedule.
